Graphic:  In all labor there is profit, but idle chatter leads only to poverty.  Prov 14:23

Graphic of Proverbs 14:23

The Book of Proverbs in the Holy Bible are taken very seriously by wise Christian believers around the world. They're accepted as more than "wise sayings," which is what they are. They are also taken as a kind of promise from God, or a warning, as the case may be.

This is because biblical proverbs are more than the sayings and discerning observations of very wise men. They're bits of of God's own wisdom, inspired by the Holy Spirit. These powerful insights into human nature and the path of life on Earth are words of truth and righteousness from the Lord Himself.

When God says a thing, we can bank on it. When God promises something, we can depend on it. When the Lord, in His wisdom and kindness, warns us about something, we do well to pay attention, and take note.
The Word of God is a good and faithful Lamp for our feet in the common darkness of this world. God's counsel is the best advice and help any human being can ever want – or hope to get.

The Book of Proverbs is filled to overflowing with insights, wise truths, and even humorous glimpses into the nature of human beings. Whoever spends time reading, marking and memorizing the many wise proverbs gathered there will gain a good set of internal guides to help out as they walk through the chaos of daily life on this planet.

Proverbs 14:23 is a perfect example. The New King James version of the Holy Bible renders it this way: "In all labor there is profit, But idle chatter leads only to poverty."

All labor is worth our while, even when it seems to go unnoticed and unrewarded with a paycheck. How is this true? Because every honest skill that we master, every effort put forth to learn and do something right adds to our own abilities and understanding.

The child that spends hours and hours drawing and perfecting silly pictures, the teen that works hard at a fast food restaurant for little pay, the adult that works after hours on projects for a boss that will never pay for the extra labor — all of these activities will increase insight, understanding, skill, and the simple ability to produce and accomplish. All such "hidden" gains in any person's life often enable them to accomplish things later on that will benefit them in many ways. In the mean time, they also grow in character, and the world needs more people with good character.

Want to greatly improve your own life and to be a better help and blessing to the people around you? Want to have a more valid and useful understanding of people, and of your own self? Read the Proverbs in the Holy Bible.

Read them, write them in a personal journal, remember them and act on them. The wisdom you gain will remain with you for the rest of your life, and will not only benefit you, but will also help everyone around you as you practice and share them with others.
