Christian Graphic: Remembering the Cross of Jesus

Just a few years after Jesus was nailed to a Roman cross, a highly educated Jewish Pharisee-turned-follower-of-Jesus wrote:

"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.  For it is written, 'I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.'

"Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?  For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

"For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness; but unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.  Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men."    (1 Corinthians 1:18-25, KJV)

Paul was not alone in his convictions.  He is not alone today.  Many millions of human beings around the world have come to know Jesus and to trust in Him for eternal life.  And we still celebrate the work of God's awesome grace at the cross, where Jesus died for the sins of the world.

Of course, the cross is not the end of the story, nor is it the end of God's work in saving grace.  Jesus was buried in a nearby tomb after He was shown to be dead.  And then on the third day, the Lord Jesus left the grave, by the power of God, and proved Himself very much alive.  Death was unable to keep Him in its grasp.  The grave had no power over Him.

Now we have a Savior, Christ Jesus, at the right hand of God.  And someday, the whole world will be amazed to see Him returning in the clouds of glory.  Until then, we whop know and love Him will remember the cross and give our thanks to God.
