Falling for the ideas and passing
fancies of this lost world is a descent into the darkness of
both ignorance and self-imposed delusion.
If you are struggling in your
Christian faith, trying to decide all over again if God can be
trusted, or if the Bible really holds truth, you are not alone.
All Christians, all human beings who choose to believe God and
follow the Lord Jesus Christ, will be tested. Your enemy,
the devil, insists on putting your faith to the test. And
God, your Father in heaven, allows you to be tried as by fire,
so that your faith will be both pure and strong.
The wisdom of God and truth of
God is not something that flesh and blood in this world can see
or comprehend. Heavenly truth and wisdom must be revealed
by the Holy Spirit, in part because the flesh is dead to God and
righteousness, being cursed, and in part because God does not
allow human mechanisms, such as humanly-engineered religion and
philosophy to ever arrive at the kind of wisdom that opens our
eyes and hearts to God's kingdom. (Remember that Jesus
told Nicodemus that he had to born again, of God's Spirit, to
even be able to perceive the kingdom of God, much less enter
into it.)
We first met Christ and began to
follow Him by faith. At some point in our lives we chose
to believe God, and to allow Him to instruct us in life and
faith. We cannot, later on, gain very much by giving up
that simple faith and deciding to follow unbelieving men or
women to lead us in our search for greater understanding.
Yes, an unbeliever may be able to
help you learn how to paint your house or how to add numbers
together. But spiritual truth and the reality of the
universe is known only to God who is the Author of all things.
What He reveals is good and trustworthy on every level.
What we human beings know, is only partial at best.
We must be careful, then, to
always follow the Grand Teacher, our Lord Jesus, who knows all
and who will reveal all, to the willing student and disciple.
Paul, the apostle who wrote much of the New Testament, addresses
this very thing:
"As you have therefore received
Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in
Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught,
abounding in it with thanksgiving.
Beware lest anyone cheat you
through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition
of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not
according to Christ." (Colossians 2:6-8, NKJV)
And in his letter to the
believers in Corinth, Paul writes:
For the message of the cross is
foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being
saved it is the power of God. For it is written: "I will
destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the
understanding of the prudent."
Where is the wise? Where is the
scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made
foolish the wisdom of this world? For since, in the wisdom
of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased
God through the foolishness of the message preached to save
those who believe.
For Jews request a sign, and
Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified,
to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but
to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power
of God and the wisdom of God.
Because the foolishness of God is
wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according
to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.
But God has chosen the foolish
things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen
the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which
are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things
which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not,
to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should
glory in His presence.
But of Him you are in Christ
Jesus, who became for us wisdom from Godand righteousness and
sanctification and redemption that, as it is written, "He who
glories, let him glory in the LORD." (1 Corinthians 1:18- 31,
NKJV)
God will help you to stay on
track. Always choose to remain with Him in the light and
glory of Jesus Christ. |
