Last of the Old Testament prophets, John the Baptizer was faithful to proclaim God's Word to his generation. Jesus said that John had the ministry of Elijah who was to come before the Messiah.

Likewise, today there is a need for the ministry of Elijah (see chapter 4 of Malachi) to ready a troubled generation for the sudden return of Jesus Christ. We the church need to be about that work as John the Baptist was faith in his day. As John proclaimed the need for repentance and cleansing, so we also need to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ until He comes.
